How to maintain fiberglass?

Fiberglass is a strong and durable material that we use for our Dutchtub collection. This page will give you all the necessary information on how to maintain fiberglass material to make sure it keeps looking great.
What is fiberglass?

Fiberglass is is a fiber-reinforced plastic using glass fiber. It is a lightweight, yet strong material and is very durable. Because of its ability to be molded into complex shapes, it is often used in bathtubs and boats. All these qualities are why our Dutchtubs are made from fiberglass.

The maintenance of fiberglass

The better the fiberglass of a Dutchtub is kept clean, the longer you will be able to enjoy it. This is why we advise to empty and clean the Dutchtub after every use.

How to clean fiberglass

The Dutchtub can be cleaned with a soft cloth and a mild cleaning product like Ecover. Do not use a scouring pad or any aggressive cleaning products, as this can damage the fiberglass. The material can withstand salts dissolved in water, soap, hydrogen peroxide and a small amount of chlorine. However, chlorine is not our preferred way of enjoying the Dutchtub.

Preventing scratches

It is inevitable that the surface will show small scratches over time, even with normal use. You can however avoid bigger scratches by being careful with items with rough or uneven edges. Do not slide these over the surface as this will cause damage.
How do you repair damage to the fiberglass?

The gel coating on the surface can be repaired with specific polishing products meant for polyester. Slight scratches can often be fixed with the right products and experience. Larger holes or damaging can be repaired by a professional. Do not attempt to fix these yourself as you might damage the material further.
