Grant yourself a hygge summer
The Danish “hygge” is hard to translate, but easy to feel. Simply said, hygge means creating a nice, warm atmosphere while enjoying the simple and good things in life with the people you surround yourself with. It is not about the physical environment, but about the connection we make with each other.
Many people associate hygge with the colder seasons, but at Tiki Camp Langeland, a small piece of Danish paradise, they have perfected the concept of a hygge summer. Here, hygge is not just a word, but a way of life. Breakfasts in the morning sun, playing a board game by the tent, picking fresh herbs from the garden together, cuddling with the piglets and sheep and letting your thoughts run wild as the sun sinks behind the horizon. When the evening falls, the camp fire is lighted, time slows down and for a moment the outside world seems very far away.
Hygge means dwelling on what you are doing and being present with your full attention. Authentic conversations where connection is key and you seem to be able to talk endlessly. Funnily enough, this easily passes us by in everyday life. But surrounded by nature, where everyday life takes a break, this seems to come almost naturally. So whether you stay home this summer, or seek out faraway places - get outside and find ways to make a hygge summer for yourself.
