Make your Picket Chair even more comfortable by adding the cushion set, which is specially designed for Picket Chairs with and without armrests. The set includes 2 cushions, 1 for the seat and 1 for the backrest. The cushion is designed based on the shape of the equal planks in the Picket Chair. The light green cushion is made of acrylic fabric and PU foam and can be washed as a whole at low temperature as a delicate wash.

The Picket Chair, a thoughtfully designed bamboo chair that brings together playful elegance, durable craftsmanship, and a clear return to the essentials. Designed by Michael Schoner, the Picket Chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and stands out for its distinctive, almost floating appearance. 

At first glance, the chair captures attention through an unexpected visual detail: the seat and backrest intersect in a way that makes parts of the construction appear to hover. This optical lightness contrasts beautifully with the chair’s material choice. Crafted from oiled bamboo, the Picket Chair is built to withstand year-round outdoor use while remaining refined and comfortable enough for interior spaces.

A Little background story
“Can I design a chair using planks of just one standard size?” 

The design originated from a deceptively simple yet ambitious question Schoner posed to himself: “Can I design a chair using planks of just one standard size?” 

The Picket Chair is his convincing answer. By limiting himself to a single material in a single dimension, Schoner explored how far simplicity could be pushed without sacrificing comfort, stability, or character. The result is an archetypal chair design—stripped of noise, reduced to its essence, yet elevated through elegance and ingenuity. 

The production process is an integral part of the story. Inspired by something as everyday as a wooden popsicle stick, Schoner began experimenting with proportions and connections. 

A key design detail emerged from traditional picket fences found in regions like Tirol and Germany: the rounded cut-outs in the planks. These openings eliminate the need for complex joints, while the intersecting triangular forms reinforce the frame and add strength. Unsurprisingly, this detail also gave the chair its name: Picket Chair.

Spartan but surprisingly comfortable

Although the Picket Chair may appear Spartan at first glance, it is surprisingly comfortable. Its generous proportions and supportive angles make it an ideal lounge chair for outdoor living—whether unwinding after a long day, enjoying the first rays of sun in the garden, or relaxing on a terrace. At the same time, the soft finish of the bamboo, rounded edges, and refined detailing allow the chair to transition seamlessly indoors. 

With the Picket Chair, Weltevree once again reinforces its commitment to creating products that combine functional quality with poetic expression. It reflects a core theme within Weltevree’s philosophy: returning to the basics and rediscovering luxury in simplicity.
