Centraal Museum Utrecht by WONDERS
Centraal Museum Utrecht is the oldest municipal museum in the Netherlands, home to an exceptionally diverse collection spanning fashion, design, applied arts, and fine art — including the world's largest collection of works by Utrecht-born artist Dick Bruna, creator of Miffy. The museum is known for its bold, eclectic identity, where historical depth and contemporary creativity exist side by side.
That same spirit now extends outdoors.
In designing the museum's new terrace, curators and interior architects Gerrit Vos and Jennemieke Van der Schoot-Vos, as WONDERS, approached the space with the same intention you'd bring to any considered interior: every piece had to earn its place.
"Every carefully chosen piece of furniture tells a fitting and coherent story — connecting designer, maker, and material. Together, they form a colorful, playful, and functional landscape that reflects the distinctly diverse character of Centraal Museum."
Among the key elements of this outdoor composition are Weltevree's Sofabeds — bringing their signature blend of craftsmanship, comfort, and quiet boldness to a setting that invites people to slow down, sit longer, and engage with their surroundings in a different way.
The result is a terrace that doesn't just complement the museum — it extends it.
The museum's beautifully enclosed garden is freely accessible whenever the museum is open — no admission ticket required. A rare thing: a designed outdoor space that truly belongs to everyone.
